Jason Parra, Kaylin Edwards Set to Get Outdoor Season Rolling at California RelaysPublished by
California's Spring Season Revs Up, Three Weeks Out From Arcadia By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Ken Martinez photo Jason Parra of Long Beach Millikan is the main character in the distance field this weekend at the 21st California Relays in Long Beach. Parra was eighth at Nike Cross Nationals and ninth at last year's Arcadia Invitational 3,200 meters, running 8:46.50. Parra is entered in the 3,200 meters Friday and is the defending champion in the event. He is also entered in Saturday's 1,600. Kaylin Edwards of Long Beach Wilson, one of the top 300-meter hurdlers in the country, will be competing on her home track at the two-day relay-heavy event. Long Beach Wilson, which won the co-ed title at the Oregon Relays last year, will get a chance to test the depth of its spring corps in the early season meet. WATCH THE CALIFORNIA RELAYS LIVE ON RUNNERSPACE (+PLUS required) Edwards is the reigning California state champion in the 300-meter hurdles and ran 41.57 seconds in last year's state final. In February she won the 60-meter hurdles and was on two victorious relays at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. L'Mio Edwards of Claremont, a state finalist in the girls 800 meters last spring, is the top entry in that event on Friday. JT Kraemer of Long Beach (Wilson), with a PR of 1:52.32, leads the entries in the boys 800. Devin Bragg of Los Alamitos is in the boys 100 meters and Mia Flowers of Serra is the top seed for the girls' dash. Jaiya Fletcher from Serra and Cayden Roberson of Eleanor Roosevelt are the top hurdlers entered in Saturday's 100m/110m events. The boys 400 meters features a showdown between Long Beach Wilson duo JaeRon Harris and Kaedyn Burroughs and Culver City's Duaine Mayrant. More news |
